EMPLOYMENT HARASSMENT: ABM Industries Agrees to $5.8 Million Settlement to end Sexual Harassment Suit
September 2, 2010
Fresno – ABM Industries Inc., a national janitorial services company, has agreed to settle a sexual harassment and sexual assault lawsuit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in behalf of 21 female workers.
The settlement, which would pay the 21 workers $5.8 million, was reached after the EEOC filed the lawsuits last 2007.
Aside from the monetary payment, ABM also agreed to have a designate equal employment monitor and to set-up a toll free complaint hotline for aggrieved employees.
In the lawsuit, the female workers alleged that male supervisors exposed themselves in front of them and committed unwelcome sexual touching and groping for a number of years.
The EEOC also said that one of the supervisors was a registered sex offender and at least one woman claimed that she was raped.
As part of the settlement, ADM was not required to admit fault about the allegations against them.
