EMPLOYMENT LAW: 600 Job Cuts Approved by San Diego County Supervisors

San Diego – Nearly 600 jobs will be cut from the county’s workforce in the 2010-2011 fiscal years after the Board of Supervisors has unanimously voted for its approval.
The planned cuts are part of the county’s proposed measures for reduced spending that will be fully considered next month.
The jobs that will be eliminated from about 3.6% of the county’s whole workforce but most of the positions were already vacant even before the proposed cuts.
The Board of Supervisors is not optimistic about any improvements with regards to the budget deficit next year and sees no other options to avoid the proposed job cuts.
One supervisor said that no one is looking forward to having fewer employees next year.
After the approved cuts are implemented, the San Diego County will be left with 15,826 full time positions.
