EMPLOYMENT LAW: 5,880 Laid-off Cal Workers Get Re-Employment Assistance from US DOL

Washington – The US Department of Labor (DOL) is set to release $45,080,077 from its National Emergency Grant fund to provide re-employment assistance to some 5, 880 workers affected by layoffs in 20 California counties, a statement from its website said.
Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said the grant is expected to give the workers access to re-employment and retraining services for new jobs in the state’s growing economy.
The re-employment services will include skills assessment, basic skills training, individual career counseling and occupational skills training which will prepare workers for employment in strong local industries such as accounting, building trades, green jobs, health care, office administration and warehousing.
