399,000 applications increase for Unemployment Benefits

January 19, 2012

Washington – As companies let go of some employees after the holiday season, the observed result ended in the heightened number of applications for weekly unemployment benefits, reports said.

According to authorities, applications were at their highest during the six-week span, 24,000 to 399,000.

Economists have said that the high application rate activity from the first two weeks of the year happens annually. They have stated that this is due to some companies laying off workers on temporary employment that they employed in the holidays.

Reports added that currently the country still has an average of 13 million unemployed citizens.
