$28M Budget Cuts Threatens 125 Fresno Employees

November 19, 2009

Fresno – Mayor Ashley Swearengin has suggested to the City Council Thursday a budget cut plan which will save the city around $28 million but will likely cost 125 job positions.

The proposed cuts will include the closing of at least two fire stations and an imposed 40-hour furlough to city employees which will be implemented from December 24 to December 31. It is said to aid the city’s finances for the next 18 months.

More than 100 non-sworn employees of police department will likely be affected by the proposed budget slash. Affected departments also include city call centers, parks departments, and other official’s staff.
